George (North) vs. Klaus (South)

Hi George,
great, that we can start.
Dragon Breath wrote: Hi Klaus,
Ok, let’s get started I guess.
Here is my first move using the two player board.
One thing I am not clear about is how do Knights get put on the board?
Same as other special pieces - 10 moves?
The knights are on the board at the beginning. Your knights are awaiting instructions on the spaces 210, 215, 220 and 225.
Dragon Breath wrote:If you see any mistakes let me know.
You have chosen to be North. Normally the beginner starts as South. But it's ok. I'm South now.
Dragon Breath wrote:Also, if it is better to use the forum, please reply that way and I will follow your example.
Thanks so much,
George

Hi Dragon Breath,

let me make little corrections. No problem!

Gess811 - Gess836 5 P5 -------(Edit:Gess811 - 836 )
Gess836 - Ess247 2 P7 -------(Edit:Ess836 - 247 , because the elephant + soldiers are moving)
Ess247 - S248 1 P8 --------(Edit: S247 - 248 , only the soldier is moving)
K215 - K297 4 P12 -------(Edit: N215 - 267 , N is the sign for knight, K would mark a catapult; please confirm, George, that you want to move your knight to space 267, space 297 isn't there)
B831- B832 1 P13 -------(Edit: B831 - 832)
S222- Ds221 1 P14 ------- (Edit: S222 - D221 , soldier is moving to the camel)
Ds221- Ds243 4 P18 ------- (Edit: Ds221 - 243)
Ds243- S244 1 P19 ------- (Edit: S243 - 244)
D243- D242 1 P20 ------- (Edit: D243 -242)

Hi George,

here is South turn 2:

B725 - 767 1P
Gess724 x B832 7P
Ess832 x D242 2P
Ess242 x S244 2P
G832 - 726 5P
Ess244 x Es247 3P
Total 20P

Do you contacted Donald Benge decades ago, too? His friend, Harvey Lerman, had developed a special Conquest software for windows 3.11. One could use this software for playing by email. In the nineties I played 3 or 4 matches with Mr. Benge and Mr. Lerman and lost. :-) I wished someone could develop such a software again. I assume that it would be very difficult, probably more difficult than producing software of other usual games you can see on special game sites... The rules and the board of Grand Conquest are very complex.

Kind regards

Klaus

Ahhhh - Camels without soldiers cannot recapture. A rookie mistake!

Ok, let’s try this and see what happens

N267 x Ess247 2P
N247 - G836 2P
Gn836 x G726 3P
Gn726 x B767 2P
Gn767 - 770 1P
S232 - E231 1P
S223 - Es231 2P
Ess231 - G804 2P
Gess804 - 812 4P
B802 - 821 1P
20p

I think at one time I had the digital game installed on my PC. With object oriented computer languages/programming I think it is easier than before to do such programs. Straight two and four player games may be easier than situations where there may be cross-team alliances and such. Also, true game operation needs to be in place for things like hints or against the computer play. I don’t see that happening.

The real issue may be legal, with trademark, royalty rights and such.

Dear George,

you have to redo your moves, because you captured my galleon and in this case I can do a recapture if I want. And I would make a recapture by my boat on space 767 (2 spaces distance). I think you don't want it, not really... So please redo.

N267 x Ess247 2P

I would make a recapture here!

Your elephant is on space 230. You have already moved the elephant on space 231 in your former moves.

It's a hypothetical consideration. Yes, the legal issue would be important but solvable. Numbskullgames (Patrick) is the owner of the game. But it's a hypothetic question.

Hi Klaus,
Obviously I should spend a little more time with my moves. Let me try again after a day or two.
Thanks for your help and patience.

Ok, let’s try this. Thanks for the re-do, many thanks to your King!

N267 x Ess247 2p
N247 - 836 2p
Gn836 - 505. 8p
B802 - 824. 4P
B806 - 822. 4P

Hopefully no operational mistakes, only positional issues which I am sure you will find and exploit ;)

It is great that you had a chance to play with the creator of Conquest.
I expect he was pleased with what you created, and still lives.
